Background Information

Candida albicans is an opportunistic yeast and one of the most common fungal pathogens found in the human body. It is commonly present in the gastrointestinal tract, oral cavity, and vaginal microbiota of about half of healthy adults. While typically a harmless commensal organism, C. albicans can overgrow and become pathogenic under certain conditions. Factors such as recent antibiotic use, a weakened immune system, or diabetes can increase the risk of Candida albicans infections. Overgrowth can result in infections like urinary tract infections, genital yeast infections, oral thrush, and mucocutaneous candidiasis. In severe cases, when Candida albicans enters the bloodstream or internal organs, it may cause serious conditions including bloodstream infections, endocarditis, meningitis, and inflammation of internal linings.

This Candida albicans TaqMan PCR Lyophilized Kit is designed for the specific detection of Candida albicans DNA using real-time PCR technology based on TaqMan probes. Intended for research use only, this kit offers a simple, reliable, and rapid method for detecting Candida albicans DNA.

The kit includes a PCR inhibition control to monitor for potential inhibitors and to verify the quality of the sample and assay results. It contains a lyophilized Master Mix for target and control detection, a Primer & Probe Mix specific for Candida albicans, along with positive and negative controls to ensure reagent integrity.

All lyophilized components should be stored at -20°C upon receipt to maintain stability. After reconstitution, storage at -20°C is recommended until the kit’s expiration date. Detailed instructions for storage and reconstitution are provided with the kit.
